Havant 2022

PSA Testing (ASDA Green Token Scheme)

It is one of Havant Lions Clubs aims in 2022 to carry out free PSA testing days in Waterlooville and Havant  (The cost to us will be approx £12 per Test) Dates to be confirmed.

Prostate cancer has not stopped for Covid-19. That is why Prostate Cancer UK is alarmed by the latest NHS data showing a sharp fall in men being referred by GPs for diagnostic tests in the last year. Since March 2020, referrals by GPs in England have dropped by around 52,000. It is likely this has happened due to fewer conversations between men and their GP.
Consequently there is an alarming drop in men receiving treatment for prostate cancer – 8,600 fewer men than the year before. With one man dying every hour from prostate cancer and 40,000 new cases every year. Early detection and treatment may vastly increase chances of survival
Help is needed to find these men and help them get a diagnosis before it is too late to be cured. Today, we are asking for your help to find these missing men.

ASDA Waterlooville have very kindly agreed to include us in their Green Token scheme which is being run on an online voting basis.  If you could vote for us between 1st February and 31st March 2022 it would be a great help.  You can vote once per week and the details are contained by Clicking this Link

Thank You

Over this Christmas Period we have raised over £5800.00 with our Sleigh and collecting points at Tesco Havant and Asda Waterlooville.  Your generosity has been staggering.  We now have funds to help: Local People in Need, Community Projects, Young People volunteering abroad, and so much more.

Particular thanks to those Companies that made our collections possible:

Emsworth Show 2021

Another very successful Bottle stall at the Emsworth Show which raised much needed funds for local good causes – Thanks to all those that purchased tickets and of course won a prize.  Special thanks to all those who contributed bottles, the generosity this year was overwhelming.

Summer Fund Raising Campaign

Due to COVID, Havant Lions won’t be able to carry out our normal Bottle Collection this year.

Sadly, this comes at a time when more local people are in need than ever before – In the last 3 months we have spent more than £4000 to support local people, including providing £2000 worth of £50 food vouchers to people who would otherwise have gone hungry.

To try and raise funds to fill this gap we are turning our hands (somewhat nervously!) to running an Online Summer 2020 Collection.  If you would like to donate to this appeal, then you can:

To donate £1, text ROAR01 to 70201

To donate £3, text ROAR01 to 70331

Thank You

Eating With The Havant Lions!

Havant Lions are probably best known for taking Santa out & about every Christmas. Funds raised then are now being used to support local people in need.

The COVID-19 crisis has left many Havant households in dire straits.  While the government is making money available to support people during the crisis there is inevitably a delay in getting cash into peoples’ hands.  This can mean that in the short-term people don’t even have the money to buy basic foodstuffs.  Havant Lions have allocated an initial £2,000 to help to alleviate this misery locally.  The funds have been converted into £50 food vouchers which are being routed via Social Services and Citizens Advice to make sure the vouchers go to the people with the most need in the area.  With over £1,800 already given out the vouchers are obviously filling a pressing need.

**We are looking for New Lions**

“Havant Lions always welcome applications from people who are interested in serving their community while having a good time doing it! Normally we would invite anyone interested to join us at the Brookfield Hotel to get a better idea of what the club does.  However, at the moment we are limited to online meetings so simply email us on membership@havantlions.org.uk and we’ll be happy to get back to you with more information about the Club and the Lions organisation in general”
